The 2006 Award recipients are:


Salmon Preservation Association for the Waters of Newfoundland

Formed in 1979, the Salmon Preservation Association for the Waters of Newfoundland (SPAWN) has been involved in numerous conservation projects on rivers such as the Humber, Harry's, Western Arm Brook, Torrent, Lonond, Trout Corner Brook Stream, Middle Barachois, Serpentine and Southwest. SPAWN has contributed to public awareness and conservation; during the past two years, SPAWN has been instrumental in starting a stewardship group on Harry's River. Over the past 27 years, these volunteers have been promoting good angling practices and delivering conservation messages through "Spawner" magazine. In addition, through contests in various schools, SPAWN also educates the younger generation.

Dr. Lawrence Felt

Retired President of the Salmonid Council of Newfoundland and Labrador, Dr. Felt remains active in a variety of salmon- and trout-related conservation activities with a special emphasis on bringing all parties for whom the Atlantic salmon has cultural, social and/or economic significance together to ensure the salmon's survival for present and future generations of Canadians.

Mr. Robert O'Donnell

Bob O'Donnell has spent the past three decades giving his time as a leader, conservationist, educator, fundraiser and activist on behalf of several projects in New Brunswick, in particular the Tobique River. Mr. O'Donnell has worked countless hours as a volunteer to preserve and enhance fish and their habitat through the New Brunswick Salmon Council, Atlantic Salmon Federation, Tobique Salmon Protective Association as well as the "Tobique Barrier," the "Two Brooks Stabilization Project" and "The Fish Friends" educational program.

Mr. Osborne McArthur

Mr. McArthur has devoted much of his adult life to projects that were designed to protect fish habitat and to enhance local stocks of brown trout in the Owen Sound area and Georgian Bay. Mr. McArthur designed two spawning channels, upwelling incubation boxes and a mini-hatchery. For a period spanning over 50 years, Mr. McArthur has contributed to improving fish habitat and increasing public awareness. A member of the Sydenham Sportsman Association,
Mr. McArthur has been described in the past as a freelance river-keeper and has earned the nickname "Mr. Brown Trout" of Ontario.

Mr. and Mrs. David and Angie Doggett

Dave and Angie Doggett are the founders of the website novascotiafishing.com. By creating this user-friendly website, they have opened up Nova Scotia fishing to local communities and beyond. One of the lasting benefits of this website is its contribution to the promotion of conservation of all fish stocks and the environment. Novascotiafishing.com promotes catch-and-release and ethical use of fishing resources. Offering free membership, this website now counts 3600 members, and is being used as an anglers' forum and educational tool. With an online magazine, anglers of all ages share lessons learned, humorous stories or "how to" articles. By generating interest in sport fishing, this website will help to conserve and contribute to the future of recreational fishing in Nova Scotia.
