Integrated Fisheries Management Plans

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) uses Integrated Fisheries Management Plans (IFMP s) to guide the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources. An IFMP is developed to manage the fishery of a particular species in a given region. IFMP s combine the best available science on a species with industry data on capacity and methods for harvesting that species.

The following two documents provide insight into how the IFMP s are developed.

  • IFMP Template
The template (Annex A) provides the basic information regarding the content of the IFMP .

  • Guidance Document
The guidance document aims to further clarify both the content and application of the template, as well as to recommend a general process to develop an IFMP
