AAROM - Statement of Interest - Introduction

Aboriginal groups interested in participating in the Aboriginal Aquatic Resource and Oceans Management (AAROM) Program must complete and submit a Statement of Interest (SOI) application form to DFO for approval.  Once completed, applicants are invited to submit their SOI application forms and supporting documentation to their AAROM regional representative(s) (regional and area contacts may be found in the application packages linked below). Groups must choose between the Capacity Building or the Collaborative Management component of AAROM.

Each application must be sponsored by a DFO regional or area representative who will also provide advice and guidance to groups in the development of their proposals. Once assessed for quality and completeness, the regional representative will then forward the proposal to the respective DFO regional review committee. Regional proposals will then be tabled for discussion by a national steering committee who will assess and evaluate the individual AAROM proposals against overall program objectives and criteria. Once a decision has been taken, applicants will be formally apprised of the status of their applications in writing.

Capacity Building

The Capacity Building (CB) Statement of Interest (SOI) will be used to determine the eligibility of applicants for participation in the CB component of the AAROM Program.

The purpose of the Capacity Building component is to support the participation of qualifying Aboriginal groups in the developmental phases of AAROM and to assist Aboriginal groups in meeting the eligibility criteria for the Collaborative Management component of AAROM.

Collaborative Management

The Collaborative Management (CM) Statement of Interest (SOI) application will be used to determine the eligibility of applicants for participation in the CM component of the AAROM Program and in affirming the expressed areas of interest of a potential AAROM CM body. However, applicants may be referred to the Capacity Building (CB) component of the Program to address identified gaps following a formal review of the CM SOI by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).

Applicants may apply to the Collaborative Management component should they determine they can satisfy the eligibility requirements of the Program.
