Atlantic Razor Clam Fishing Area 5 - Season 2011

Species and Area

Quebec Region, Îles-de-la-Madeleine area, Atlantic razor clam fishing area no. 5, a coastal zone surrounding the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Four fish harvesters hold an Atlantic razor clam exploratory fishing licence using a hydraulic dredge. DFO also issues, upon request, hand harvesting fishing licences to divers or shore pickers.

From March 28 to December 10, 2011

Total Allowable Catches and Sharing Arrangements (if applicable)

Hydraulic dredge: Sub-area 5A1: 13 t; Sub-area 5A2: 26 t; Sub-area 5B: competitive fishery

Hand harvesting: Maximum 300 Atlantic razor clams per day

Management Measures

Minimum catch size: 100 mm in the greatest length of the shell

Fishing gear: Maximum one dredge per vessel with a maximum overall opening width of 1.52 m

Monitoring measures: It is mandatory to fill out the logbook prior to arrival at the wharf; 100% hails from sea and sporadic dockside monitoring.
