Species and Area

Quebec Region, Îles-de-la-Madeleine area, Stimpson surf clam fishing area no. 5, a coastal zone surrounding the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Four fish harvesters hold a Stimpson surf clam fishing licence using a hydraulic dredge.

Dates of season (subject to change)

From March 28 to June 11 and from August 1st to December 10, 2011

Hydraulic dredge: Sub-area 5A: 204 t; Sub-area 5B: 113 t

Management Measures

Minimum catch size: 80 mm in the greatest length of the shell

Fishing gear: Maximum one dredge per vessel with a maximum overall opening width of 2.13 m

Monitoring measures: It is mandatory to fill out the logbook prior to arrival at the wharf; 100% hails from sea and sporadic dockside monitoring.
