Species and Area
Quebec region, Gaspe-Lower-St-Lawrence area, exploratory urchin fishery in urchin fishing areas 1 to 8.
In 2010, the area 8 was divided in seven sub-areas and protected areas were introduced in areas 1 to 8.
There are 2 exploratory licenses in two sub-areas of area 8.
Season Dates (subject to change)
Fishing season extend between August 1st to May 31st.
Total allowable catch (TAC) and harvest sharing agreements (if applicable)
N/A, competitive fishery managed by the fishing effort.
Management measures
- Minimum width of the shell: 50 mm.
- Dive-fishing with a maximum of 5 authorized divers at any time, whether diving or on board the vessel.
- Only one vessel is authorized to take part to the fishing operations.
- A participating clause of 4 536 kg (10 000 lb) will be applied to renew the exploratory licence the following year.
- 13 protected areas will now be closed to urchin fishing in areas 1 to 8.

- Mandatory log book
- 100% hail-in to a dockside monitoring company to declare the catches.
