Area 19 Snow Crab fishery in Gulf Nova Scotia.

Fish harvesters are not permitted to have any snow crab on board until 05:00, July 14.
The total allowable catch (TAC) for the 2010 fishery is 1,360t. The Area 19 Snow Crab fishery consists of 1,699 trap share allocations. The allocation per trap share in 2010 is 797.4 kg (1,758 lbs). In 2010, there are 162 Area 19 licence holders. An Area 19 licence may consist of a minimum of 3 trap shares or a maximum of 26 trap shares
For the 2010 season only, Area 19 fish harvesters are permitted to transfer their allocation to another Area 19 licence holder, one time, before the season begins. Fish harvesters who transfer their allocation, are not required to be on board during fishing. Fish harvesters are permitted to combine a maximum of 26 trap share allocations per vessel.
As is normally permitted in the Area 19 Snow Crab fishery, fish harvesters may pool their allocation with another Area 19 licence holder. Fish harvesters who pool with another Area 19 licence holder require an operator per licence to be on board. Fish harvesters are permitted to combine a maximum of 26 trap share allocations per vessel.
Soft/White Shelled Crab - Upon consultation with the management committee, the soft / white shelled protocol will be status quo as in 2009 with nine sectors and no voluntary closures. All closures in 2010 will be mandatory. The protocol for 210 is outlined below:
i)Daily report for soft / white shelled crab percentages will be sent to the association when the average percentage of soft/white shelled crab exceeds 10%.
ii)Consistent with the soft shell protocol below, should the incidence of soft/white shelled crab (durometer readings less than 78 units) taken at sea exceed 20 % for a 10 day period the following action will be taken:
The sector will close by variation order for the remainder of the season.
Observer Coverage – Ten (10) observers for each day of the fishery
Trap Limit – The maximum number of traps in the 2010 fishery is 1,699
