Management Measures

Monitoring measures: It is mandatory to fill out the logbook prior to arrival at the wharf; 100% hail in and sporadic dockside monitoring.

In addition to the modifications in the Conservation Harvesting Plan focusing on conservation and specified in the Notice to Fish Harvesters in recent weeks, the number of nets allowed is 80 per fisher or 100 per partnership agreement. In order to monitor more efficiently the landings, an additional management measure is introduced in 2010. Fish harvesters from the Lower North Shore landing their catches in Newfoundland must contact the Department (DFO) at 1-877-962-8222 or 1-877-962-8309 in order to record their catches as soon as they reach the wharf.

Moreover, DFO will proceed with the implementation of a quota reconciliation program starting with the 2010-2011 season. As such, quota overruns incurred during the 2010-2011 season will be deducted by a factor of one-to-one on the following season quotas.

The 4RST Greenland Halibut Conservation Harvesting Plan modified on June 15th, 2010 and attached to the present Notice to Fish Harvesters states the other Greenland Halibut fishery management measures.

Authorized fish harvesters wishing to direct Greenland Halibut fishing activities must obtain valid Licence Conditions from the Sept-Îles DFO Licensing Office.
