Species and Area

Quebec Region, Gaspe-Lower St. Lawrence area, scallop fishing in area 19.

3 fishing licenses. The scallop fishing area 19 is located between Cap Gaspe and Miguasha (southern part of the Gaspe Peninsula).

Dates of season (subject to change)

May 1 to September 30

Total Allowable Catches and Sharing Arrangements (if applicable)

N/A, it is a competitive fishery managed by the control of the fishing effort.

Management Measures

Minimum catch size:
Iceland scallop: No minimum size
Sea scallop: The minimum size of the shell is 100 mm or a maximum count of 33 meats per 500 g.

Control of the fishing effort and restrictions:

  • The «Digby» dredge is the only authorized gear. The total width of the baskets must not exceed 7,3m.
  • 2 protected areas are closed to scallop fishing in area 19.
  • Other restrictions :

From May 1 to August 15: No fishing authorized in waters less than 10 fathoms.
From August 16 to September 30: No fishing authorized in waters less than 15 fathoms after August 16.

Monitoring measures: Mandatory logbook; Mandatory hail in to a dockside monitoring company to declare the catches; Mandatory use of a Vessel monitoring system (VMS).
