Quebec Region, Gaspe-Lower St. Lawrence area, scallop fishing in area 18.

3 fishing licenses in sub-area 18B. The scallop fishing area 18 is divided in 3 sub-areas: 18B1 (North of Gaspe region), 18B2 (South of Anticosti Island) and 18C (South-East of Anticosti Island).

Management Measures

Minimum catch size: Iceland scallop: No minimum size
Sea scallop: The minimum size of the shell is 100 mm or a maximum count of 33 meats per 500 g.
Control of the fishing effort and restrictions:

  • The total width of the baskets must not exceed 7,3m.
  • 2 protected areas are closed to scallop fishing in area 18B1.
  • Other restriction :

No fishing authorized in waters less than 10 fathoms.

Monitoring measures: Mandatory logbook; Mandatory hail in to a dockside monitoring company to declare the catches and, for area 18C, 100 % dockside verification; Mandatory use of a Vessel monitoring system (VMS).
