Quebec Region, Îles-de-la-Madeleine area, lobster fishery in lobster fishing area 22.
The lobster fishing area 22 (LFA 22) is a coastal zone surrounding the Îles-de-la-Madeleine (Magdalen Islands).
From May 1 to July 3, from 5:00 h to 21:30 h, with exception for the day the traps are set (the first Saturday) and on Sundays (for the whole duration of the season) where fishing is not authorized. The hauling of traps more than once per day is not authorized in LFA 22.
Competitive fishery with limited access to the 325 holders of a lobster fishing license valid for LFA 22.
Minimum catch size: 83 mm
Fishing gears: 285 traps with maximum outside dimensions not exceeding 81 cm in length, 61 cm in width and 50 cm in height and equipped with escape vents 47 mm in height by 127 mm in length for rectangular escape vents or 60 mm in diameter for circular escape vents. Minimum 7 traps per trawl, maximum 8 fathoms between each trap and maximum 56 fathoms from the first to the last trap, no matter the number of traps per line.
Monitoring measures: Each trap must bear a valid tag issued by DFO.
