Species and Area

Scallop, area 15 - Quebec region, North Shore area

Dates of season (subject to change)

From May 14th to December 31, 2010

Total Allowable Catches (TAC)

No global quota for area 15.

16I Access :
Licences holders in area 15 also have access to sub-area 16I.

16H Access :
Voluntary access to sub-area 16H for 6 scallop fish harvesters from the Lower North Shore without holding a crab licence.

These fish harvesters will have 8,3 t (meat) and the dockside monitoring will be obligatory with a cover of 100 %.

Management Measures

Fishing area :
From the Quebec-Labrador border to Pointe Kegaska

Number of licences :
33 scallop licences
2 exploratory Iceland scallop licences

Participation clause for the exploratory Iceland scallop licences:
An annual participation clause of 250 kg will be applied. Catches must be recorded at DFO before December 31 of the current year by a buyer registered with the department.

Log book :
Obligatory log book

Baskets width :
The total width of the baskets must not exceed 24 feet.

Species at Risk Act :
Pursuant to the Species at Risk Act (SARA), all by-catches of spotted wolffish, northern wolffish and leatherback Turtle must be returned to the water and released in the same location they were caught and, if the specimen is still alive, with as little harm as possible. Moreover, information regarding interactions with species at risk must be provided in the Species at risk section of the logbook.

Licence condition:
A two working days deadline is necessary for the issuance of the licence conditions.
