Species and Area

Toad crab for sub-areas CN-2, CN-3 and CN-4 – Quebec region

Fishing sub-areas :

  • Sub-area CN-2 : From La Rivière Romaine to Rivière de L'Étang
  • Sub-area CN-3 : From Cap Cormoran to La Rivière Romaine
  • Sub-area CN-4 : From Pointe-des-Monts to Cap Cormoran

Dates of season (subject to change)

Fishing season 2010 : From July 11 to November 2

Fishing season 2011 : From July 10 to November 1

Management Measures

Number of licences :

  • Sub-area CN-2 : 5 exploratory licences (not transferable)
  • Sub-area CN-3 : 4 exploratory licences (not transferable)
  • Sub-area CN-4 : 8 exploratory licences (not transferable)

Minimum size : 70 mm of carapace width

Type of pots :

  • 150 japanese traps; or
  • 150 standard toad crab traps; or
  • 100 conical traps with a lower diameter not exceeding 914 mm (approximately 3 feet) and set with four (4) circular vents of a 65 mm diameter, the top of the openings installed at a distance calculated from the bottom of the trap, that does not exceed 50% of the trap height.

Tagging : Each trap must bear a valid tag obtained from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).

Hail In : Obligation to hail to a local monitoring company.

Logbook : Log book is obligatory. When there are fishing activities, log book duly completed must be send to the DFO Office in Sept-Îles every week.

Simultaneous fisheries : The holder of a toad crab fishing licence may not operate his lobster or/and his rock crab licence at the same time.

Participation clause : A participation clause of 2.268 t will be applied for the 2010 and 2011 fishing season.

Incidental catches : Incidental catches of rock crab, snow crab and lobster cannot be retained.

Species at risk Act : Pursuant to the Species at Risk Act (SARA), all by-catches of spotted wolffish, northern wolffish and leatherback Turtle must be returned to the water and released in the same location they were caught and, if the fish is still alive, with as little harm as possible. Moreover, information regarding interactions with species at risk must be provided in the Species at risk section of the logbook.

Licence conditions : A two working days deadline is necessary for the emission of the licence conditions.
