Toad crab for sub-area CN-1 – Quebec region, From Riviere de l'Etang to Blanc Sablon

Management Measures
Number of licences: 41 exploratory licences (not transferable)
Minimum size: 70 mm of carapace width
Type of pots:
- 150 japanese traps; or
- 150 standard toad crab traps; or
- 100 conical traps with a lower diameter not exceeding 914 mm (approximately 3 feet) and set with four (4) circular vents of a 65 mm diameter, the top of the openings installed at a distance calculated from the bottom of the trap, that does not exceed 50% of the trap height.
Tagging: Each trap must bear a valid tag obtained from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
Logbook: Logbook is mandatory.
Simultaneous fisheries: The holder of a toad crab fishing licence may not operate his lobster or/and his rock crab licence or/and his snow crab licence at the same time.
Participation clause: A participation clause of 2.268 t will be applied for the 2010 fishing season.
Incidental catches: Incidental catches of rock crab, snow crab and lobster cannot be retained.
Species at risk Act: Pursuant to the Species at Risk Act (SARA), all by-catches of spotted wolffish, northern wolffish and leatherback Turtle must be returned to the water and released in the same location they were caught and, if the fish is still alive, with as little harm as possible. Moreover, information regarding interactions with species at risk must be provided in the Species at risk section of the logbook.
Licence conditions: A two working days deadline is necessary for the issuance of the licence conditions.
