Fishing for Jonah Crab occurs within the boundaries of lobster fishing area (LFA) 41 as described in the Atlantic Fishery Regulations. LFA 41 extends from the ICJ line on Georges Bank to the 4Vs-3Ps line in the Laurentian Channel. Commercial fishing access is restricted to quotas established only in NAFO Divisions 4X and 5Ze.
Subject to any variation orders or closures specified in licence conditions, the fishery operates on the calendar year (January 1 – December 31).
TAC for 2010 has been set at 540t.
Based on current scientific concerns the TAC has been decreased from the 2009 level of 720t.
