Greenland halibut (also know as turbot) are migratory species and in the northwest Atlantic, are abundant in Baffin Bay, and Davis Strait.
The Canadian Greenland halibut fishery occurs in NAFO Subarea 0, which is divided into Division 0A in the north (Baffin Bay) and Division 0B in the south (Davis Strait). The NAFO Division 0B Greenland halibut stock is part of a shared stock between Denmark (Greenland) and Canada.
Since 2002 NAFO Scientific Council advice has been given separately for the northern area (Div. 0A and Div. 1AB) and the southern area (Div. 0B and 1C-F). The NAFO Scientific Council provides scientific recommendations for this fishery, including recommended Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for Divisions 0B and 1C-F.

The Canadian total allowable catch (TAC) for the NAFO Division 0B Greenland halibut (turbot) fishery has been set at 7,000 tonnes for 2010.
Canada’s share of the TAC is being increased by 1,500 tonnes from 5,500 to 7,000 tonnes. The 1500 tonne increase will be allocated domestically as follows:
