The Snow crab, also referred to as Queen crab, is a crustacean, with a flat, almost circular body and five pairs of spider-like legs. Snow crabs grow by producing a new shell underneath the old one, a process called molting. Female shells rarely reach widths of 9.5 centimetres and a fully grown male crab is approximately twice as large, reaching a maximum shell width of 14 centimeters.
