Groundfish generally feed and dwell near the bottom of the sea. In relative order of economic importance, the principal groundfish species are cod, turbot, haddock, small flatfishes (e.g., plaice, flounder), hake, redfish, pollock and halibut. Other groundfish species that are fished commercially include cusk, skate, dogfish and wolffish, commonly called catfish.
