Bluefin tuna is the largest member of the "Scrombridae" family of fishes. Bluefin tunas are distributed throughout the Atlantic in subtropical and temperate waters, and undertake extensive migrations. Using a countercurrent heat-exchange system, they can maintain muscle temperatures 10-15°C above surrounding water temperature, enabling them to invade cooler waters and take advantage of the abundance of food found there.
