Abstract

Hydrographic sampling effort and near surface water temperatures and salinities from the 1970-98 Canadian research vessel summer groundfish, stratified random, bottom-trawl surveys are summarised. The surveys cover NAFO divisions 4VWX. In 1998, sampling dates were typical of those seen in the past. The temperatures and salinities sampled in 1998 at 1 to 5 meters were found to be above average off central Nova Scotia and near average on the eastern Scotian shelf and below average on the western Scotian shelf.
