Proceedings of the Gulf Regional Advisory Process Meeting of the Assessment of the Scallop Fishery of the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence; February 17-18, 2011

Chairperson: C. LeBlanc

Summary

A regional advisory process meeting was held February 17 and 18, 2011 in Moncton (NB) to conduct a science peer review of the assessment of the scallop fishery of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence. The peer review meeting was conducted in response to the request by the DFO Fisheries Management for an assessment of the scallop fishery and the scallop stocks in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence with particular consideration to the effectiveness of the present management measures to protect the resource from over-exploitation. Participants at the science review included DFO Oceans and Science personnel from three DFO administrative regions (Gulf, Maritimes, Quebec), personnel from DFO Fisheries Management, from aboriginal peoples, and from fishing industry interests. An advisory report was produced and two supporting research documents are anticipated to be published.
