1. What is a Consultation?
                         

A consultation is an interactive process seeking direct participation and/or feedback from the public on a range of issues and government decisions.  They can involve both individual citizens and stakeholder organizations.

Consultations can be conducted by various methods, including: written submissions, web postings, focus groups, round tables, workshops, advisory council, e-workbook, or even public meetings involving hundreds of people.

2. What is the purpose of Fisheries and Oceans Canada Public Consultations site?

Fisheries and Oceans Canada Consultations site has three key objectives as provided by the Government of Canada’s Consultations site:

  1. To enhance public awareness of Fisheries and Oceans consultation activities;
  2. To provide opportunities for Canadians to participate in the Department’s consultations, in any forum.
  3. To develop the Department’s capacity to engage Canadians online and contribute to the broader improved management of government consultations across all departments.

3. Who do I contact if I have a question or would like more information about a particular Consultation?

Using the links provided in the ‘Consultations by Region’ toolbox, each regional office at Fisheries and Oceans Canada will have appropriate contact information and information specific to consultations occurring within their own region.
