Establishing Local Sustainable Coho (O. kisutch) Salmon Production as a New Diversified Product within the Alberta Agriculture Industry

Summary:
The purpose of this AIMAP project was to provide a catalyst for investment from the private sector for freshwater land-based Coho salmon production in Alberta. In this first phase of the project, fish were grown from eggs brought from British Columbia to Lethbridge College’s Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (ACE).  DFO Fish Health Certification processes followed, resulting in the establishment of a pedigreed Coho salmon stock in Alberta that will be used to supply land-based aquaculturists in the province.
