Scientific Research
Improved regulatory science to establish performance-based environmental standards for all aquaculture operations.
The overall goal of this pillar is to create a regulatory and management system for Canadian aquaculture that is underpinned and informed by increasingly available, accessible science and science advice. Funded at $22 million over five years, this pillar will focus on two key activities:
- Conduct new priority scientific research and knowledge gathering that supports the Governance and Regulatory Reform element outcomes, with priorities identified through an environmental risk management framework. Other mechanisms may be identified, including research projects, analyzing existing regulatory site monitoring results and undertaking studies/assessments as required to support management measures.
- Regulatory Advice: Provide science advice to inform environmental regulation of the aquaculture sector.
