Certification and Market Access

Assist the aquaculture industry to develop approaches to ensure that fish produced in Canada meet rigorous international market requirements

The overall goal of the Certification and Market Access element is to create an aquaculture sector that is able to meet market demands for high value features such as certification for social, economic and environmental performance. Funded at $10 million over five years, this pillar will focus on the following activities:

  • Sector Intelligence and Policy Development: Collect and analyze market, consumer and industry data and, based on this, develop a Canadian approach to certification and market access that coordinates with the broader fish and seafood and which also addresses aquaculture-specific considerations;

  • Sustainability and Regulatory Awareness Activities: Increase public, market and/or consumer awareness of the strength and value of Canada’s regulatory regime.

  • Grants and Contributions Program: Support initiatives to increase public, market and/or consumer awareness of the environmental performance of the Canadian aquaculture industry.

  • Domestic and International Leadership and Cooperation
