[Jamie Kendall] “My name is Jamie Kendall, I’m with the Newfoundland Aqua Services Limited, and I’ve been employed with Newfoundland Aqua Services since May of 2006.
I guess, directly, jobs - it’s putting a lot of money to the economy but it’s also diversifying the economy. No longer is the Coast of Bays more reliant on the wild fishery or forestry, which, those industries have taken a downturn recently. So, it helps diversify our economy and it puts more money in…
…We have a lot of capacity to grow and…but with that has to be managed. So many of the challenges…is going to be presented with, the increase in production is going to have to be around bio-security and make sure the proper protocols and procedures are in place to mitigate any risk that going to be…you know, any disease outbreak, or any of that could harm the industry.
…we have a lot of room to expand and to increase production and, you know, probably become a good supplier of fish in the world market. My involvement with aquaculture is that, just the sheer size of all the equipment and nets and everything in place, you know, nets are getting bigger every year, cages are getting bigger, and it’s just…more infrastructure is going to be needed to handle that increase in size and equipment, right?
…we service the aquaculture industry in every aspect from building cages, net cleaning, net manufacturing, net mending…we build steel barges, feed barges, and we supply feed services; we store feed, we house feed, we distribute it to the sites…
…on any given day we can be doing anything that promotes it…we do a lot of customized work with plastic for harvest tables, grading tables, and pretty much anything they can dream of, or they need done - they usually come to us.”
